Embrace the uncertainty of the graceful path

Passion is experienced through the unknown.

Prior to his illness, Armstrong had not considered competing in one of the most difficult athletic events in the world. Armstrong explains his illness “reset all expectations . . . to zero.” Unencumbered by expectations, Armstrong was free to pursue his dream, reasoning he had “nothing to lose.” His message for others, “there’s hope.”[i]

With every pump of the pedal, Armstrong rode down an uncertain path and on to his dream.

Living with passion often brings you face to face with the uncertainty of new experiences. Uncertainty is not the same thing as impossibility. Taking on a challenge with an unknown outcome such as a new project, changing jobs, making new friends, traveling, or learning a new skill can be invigorating.

Following your dream is exhilarating. Situations you are anxious about are often also exciting. Part of accepting the uncertainty of the graceful path is to embrace the excitement of the unknown.
