Experience God’s presence throughout the day

Centering prayers said during your regular prayer time are maintenance prayers.

For a deeper relationship with God, centering prayers can also be said throughout the day, not just during a regular quiet time. The Apostle Paul said to “pray continually.”[1]

You can experience God’s presence by silently repeating a sacred phrase as you go about your daily routine. This helps you experience peace and brings you back to center amid external noise and chaos. You can do this anytime, anywhere: for example, while driving, waiting in line, doing chores around the house, or during a meeting at work. Of course, other forms of prayer and reading Scripture are also wonderful ways to experience God’s presence.

Another form of centering prayer is the emergency fix. The emergency fix is a quick form of centering prayer said during times of crises and emotional upsets—instead of counting to ten to calm you down. You can silently repeat a short, sacred phrase or passage of Scripture anytime you are emotionally upset. This helps turn potentially tumultuous experiences into spiritual occasions. Emergency fixes can be said throughout the day to bring you back to center and transform a situation of disunity into one of harmony.
