Move deeper into friendship with God

As we move deeper on the spiritual journey, our friendship with God becomes increasingly intimate. We move in and out of five stages of friendship at different times in our lives: stranger, acquaintance, casual friend, close friend, and soul mate. God is always available for the friendship, but we don’t always accept the invitation.

·        Stranger: You do not believe in or know God.

·        Acquaintance: You know about God, but don’t know Him. You would say you believe in God if asked.

·        Casual friend: You visit with God occasionally, but not regularly. You may teach your kids to say prayers at meals and before bed, but your own personal prayers are sporadic. You believe in moral teachings and may work hard to fulfill religious obligations.

·        Close friend: Your relationship with God is an important part of your life. You experience God’s presence regularly.

·        Soul mate: God is the center of your life. You have an intimate relationship with Him. You and God are steadfast companions, at one with each other. Theologians call this union with God or resting in God.
